Maths and Science clinic revived at Tsumeb

A Mathematics and Science Clinic for Grade 11 and Advanced Subsidiary Learners at Tsumeb has been revived following its closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was set up in 2016 by the University of Namibia to improve the performance of learners.

Founded by the University of Namibia's School of Engineering and the Built Environment, the Math and Science Clinic is a community outreach initiative driven by the Advance Subsidiary syllabus.

Namibia seeks to propel itself in the realm of space science, technology, and innovation.

Higher Education Minister Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi on Wednesday announced a six-member Space Science Council.

The Council will advise the National Commission on Research, Science, and Technology (NCRST) on space science and technology-related matters.

The main function of the Council is to advise the NCRST on the development and implementation of a national space science and technology agenda in all relevant sectors. 

Omaheke Region's poor examination results concerning

The Education Inspector in the Omaheke Region, Eliakim Kavari, says the region's poor examination results and poor performance in national rankings are serious concerns.

The new curriculum also came with its own challenges, particularly in terms of the amount of work given to learners versus the time frame and career guidance, among others.

Kavari shared this during a stakeholder engagement with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Science, Information Communication Technology, and Youth Development at Gobabis.

UNAM, NUST & IUM to host next SAARMSTE

The International University of Management (IUM), in partnership with the University of Namibia (UNAM) and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), will be hosting the Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (SAARMSTE) conference next year to promote research.

The conference, which promotes research and collaboration in the fields of mathematics, science, and technology education, will be hosted on the IUM Campus in Windhoek from the 16th to the 18th of January 2024.

Namibia celebrates Worker's Day

A number of local companies took to social media to celebrate and appreciate their employees on Worker's Day.

Namibia Wildlife Resorts, showing true hospitality, served their employees with a heartfelt message hailing them as hardworking heroes who shape their communities.

Namibia University of Science and Technology, on the other hand, took the manual route, depicting construction workers with a thank you for Workers' Day. 

Science teachers in Zambezi Region attend improvement of skills workshop

Science teachers in the Zambezi Region are attending a four-day training workshop to improve their skills.

The first of its kind, the training is being facilitated by lecturers from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), sponsored by Risk Based Solutions.

One of the facilitators from NUST, Professor Onjefu Sylvanus said teachers need the training to have a full understanding of the subject and prepare their learners well to grasp the basics of science once they reach varsity level.

NUST plans to establish science and technology parks in various town

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) wants to establish science and technology parks in various towns.

This is contained in a report detailing the status of NUST, which was presented to President Hage Geingob at State House.

Namibia currently does not have regional science and technovation parks, which are usually designed to aid the growth of businesses and tech-savvy communities.

NUST, in its report titled 'Beyond the Pandemic' outlines that these parks, once established, would accelerate national priorities such as green hydrogen production.
