The Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT) has reiterated its resolve to strengthen economic diplomacy and ensure small and medium enterprises' access to external markets.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia's foreign policy is increasingly shaped by the imperative of economic diplomacy.

She says this is no longer a complementary aspect of international engagement but a central instrument in advancing national development objectives.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasised that merging the trade function with international relations was a deliberate move to ensure Namibia fully leverages economic diplomacy through its foreign policy.

Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, has said tariffs imposed on them by the United States would only have a positive impact on ties between China and Namibia.

The Chinese ambassador said the increase in tariffs by the US was a typical act of economic bullying by America.

Some members of Namibia’s National Assembly have commended the Ministry of International Relations and Trade for its active internship programme and urged the ministry to expand efforts to promote job opportunities for Namibians abroad.

The governments of Namibia and Angola remain committed to realising the objectives of economic diplomacy.

This sentiment was shared during the farewell courtesy meeting between President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Angola's Ambassador, Jovelina Imperial e Costa, at State House.

President Nangolo Mbumba has encouraged the new Heads of Mission to find niche markets for Namibia's products. 

They are also expected to assist with the improvement of the country's global competitiveness rankings.

Dr. Mbumba said this as he commissioned three Heads of Mission at State House.

The sound bilateral ties between Namibia and Tanzania have entered the stage of economic diplomacy.

President Hage Geingob commended the outgoing High Commissioner, Dr. Modestus Kipilimba, for actively promoting cooperation in this regard.

President Hage Geingob urged the new Heads of Mission to promote bilateral ties premised on economic diplomacy to benefit their respective countries and Namibia.
