MTC will provide about 200 CCTV cameras to the City Police under a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Windhoek.

The cameras are aimed at curbing crime and helping recover items throughout the city.

Through the signed agreement, the two parties will deploy digital technologies to assist in combating crime within the city.

The cameras will be deployed at various identified crime hotspots and MTC towers where they have experienced theft.

MTC pledged to support the city's safety concept through the procurement of CCTV equipment and installation.

The Chief Executive Officer of the City of Windhoek, Moses Matyayi, said the CCTV cameras assisted in combating crime and the recovery of items.

The Head of City Police, Leevi Ileka, says the MoU marks a monumental stride forward in the ongoing pursuit to make Windhoek the safest city in Africa.

He said the implementation of the partnership will have a profound impact on modern-day policing, assisting in patrolling many places simultaneously without deploying members on the ground.

City Police is further establishing a new station that will monitor the CCTV cameras on a larger scale.
