Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare presented a N$131.6 million budget allocation to boost transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
Dr. Ngurare was motivating the Office of the Auditor General's budget under vote 4.
In the 2025/26 fiscal year, the office of the Auditor General will prioritise key programmes such as Independence and Legal Framework, Public Expenditure Oversight and Policy Coordination and Support Services.
Dr. Ngurare said the proposed funding will support critical oversight functions, including an N$85.2 million public spending monitoring programme anchored in rigorous audit reporting.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring taxpayers' money is used responsibly, with a clear link to improved public service delivery.
"This initiative aims to enhance governance and accountability in the use of public funds, leading to improved citizen services and development. The public spending monitoring programme relies on robust audit reporting mechanisms to ensure that taxpayer money is utilised responsibly."
An additional N$43.6 million will go toward Program 99, which is Policy Coordination and Support Services.
The programme supports the audit office's internal capacities through training, performance management, and strategic planning.
"This programme supports the Office's overall administration by providing logistical and technological support to its audit divisions. It includes human resource management, training and development, strategic planning, and performance management."
The Prime Minister said the allocation is essential to meet the requirements of the State Finance Act and maintain accurate government financial reporting amid ongoing economic pressures.
