Phase one of the Sangwali access road is nearly complete, according to the Roads Authority.
The project began in October last year, aiming to link the road to nearby government facilities.
"Phase one we are almost completed, as you can see we have started with the black top, with the surfacing. By the end of June we will be done with this road and we'll also be putting some signage. After that, we have instructed the contractor to continue with the second phase, and that is how to link the clinic, the two schools and the Ministry of Agriculture office. We hope to complete that by the end of this financial year," said Roads Authority CEO, Dr Conrad Lutombi.
Dr Lutombi expressed satisfaction with the project, saying there were minimal challenges from both the community and contractors.
He added that the final phase includes designing and widening the drainage structure and constructing the gravel road towards Nkasa Rupara National Park.
"Government has taken an approach for us to start phasing in most of our roads to low volume seal. Since it’s quite an important road to the national park, we will also do a low volume seal."
The project is estimated to cost N$25 million, with additional funds expected for the extension works.
Dr Lutombi emphasised the Roads Authority’s commitment to implementing and maintaining national road infrastructure.
"The approach of government now is for us to maintain what we have, as we continue to develop new ones—connecting schools, clinics, constituencies, agricultural projects. That is really our focus as an organisation moving forward, so that we can proudly achieve an equitable shared prosperity for all."
The Roads Authority has completed its site inspections on ongoing road projects in the region.
