The Landless People's Movement (LPM) leader, Bernadus Swartbooi, has urged young people to become the drivers of change in society.

Swartbooi made the call at the celebration of the party's youth command element at Youth Day at Keetmanshoop.

The LPM's youth command element gathered at Keetmanshoop to celebrate Youth Day under the theme 'Youth empowerment for nation building'.

"It is you who is in the area, in the street mobilising, in the corners educating, and in the meetings articulating and confronting the powers that be. It is you who is trying to make a change in society that matters. And along this road, you will make your mistakes; you will have your own shortcomings, but you will still be the one who matters. So the first thing I want to tell you, if you want to matter in society, is to forget the critic, forget the shortcomings, tap into yourself and walk the journey of seeking to achieve victory."

The party's youth command leader and party representative in parliament delivered messages of solidarity at the occasion.

LPM Youth Command Leader Duminga Ndala called the youth to action, saying, "Youth empowerment for nation building must translate into bold and transformative action. And this is why we place young people at the helm of power. So, youth empowerment as young people of LPM means implementing radical and forward-looking policies that place young people at the forefront. It also means prioritising youth employment through sustainable job creation."

Member of Parliament Utaara Mootu also addressed the youth. "In LPM, youth are not just campaigners; we are the builders of the alternative government. We don't want to manage what the colonisers left us. We are here to redistribute land. We are here to redefine discussions in parliament. We are here to work for you as councillors."

The party's operative secretary, Dawid ǂEigub, welcomed new members.
