In his first State of the Region Address, |Khomas Governor Sam Nujoma prioritised education and infrastructure development while acknowledging persistent challenges such as limited resources and rapid urban growth.

Nujoma placed education at the heart of his address, detailing a series of projects aimed at improving learning conditions across the region. 

In a show of commitment, the Khomas Regional Council undertook several infrastructure projects in the education sector.

"During the period under review, with regards to infrastructure and maintenance development, the Regional Council renovated several ablution facilities at Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School, upgrading the boundary wall and entrance gate at Berthold Himumuine Primary School, as well as the refurbishment of classroom furniture that was done by the Windhoek Vocational Education Students. Other support to the education sector includes the provision of smart screens at Hochland High School, as well as the renovation of sports facilities at A. Shipena Secondary School, which is still ongoing."

Beyond school infrastructure, the region financially assisted 101 NAMCOL students with over N$146,000 to upgrade their Grade 11 and 12 results and contributed over N$251,000 to cover the registration fees for 60 students at accredited institutions of higher learning.

He stated that other completed minor capital projects amounted to N$12.9 million and include "construction and renovation of school toilets (N$755,000), upgraded entrance at Berthold Katjimune School (N$205,000), high mast lighting in Samora Machel Constituency (N$1.5 million), prefabricated container offices for Klein Windhoek Police (N$393,000), sports field development in Groot Aub (N$1.3 million), plot fencing for new schools and clinic at Farm 508 (N$3 million), three new antenatal rooms at Khomasdal Primary Health Centre (N$1 million), and ablution block renovation at Nicolaas Witbooi School (N$230,000)."

Despite these achievements, the governor acknowledged that challenges persist, including dilapidated infrastructure, social ills, and increasing demands due to urban growth. 

He affirmed the Council's continued commitment to the national development agenda and improving service delivery across all sectors.
