Karibib residents have opposed the granting of bail to all murder suspects in the Erongo Region.
A group of residents marched to the Karibib Magistrate's court to hand over a petition.
They stressed that Karibib is a fast-developing town and has become a target for criminals.
The Karibib Crime Prevention Committee, led by Clarence Geingob, said another petition was handed over in May, requesting the town council to allocate land for the construction of police barracks.
"A few years ago, housebreaking, phone snatchings, and the sale of illegal substances and stolen items were minor aspects of our lives in Karibib. But now, it has become our daily news. We are not only requesting no bail for the murder cases but also for all repeat offenders, as some of the old people became targets of housebreakings on repeated incidents that are also known to Karibib crime prevention."
The group spokesperson cited the murder case of 16-year-old Antonio Xamseb as an example where bail should not be granted.
Kuje Tjimuine and Nekwa Hangula are accused of robbing and killing the teenager, and they were denied bail in July.
"We continue to urge the authorities to resolve the numerous open crime cases, particularly those involving murder. Family members, friends, and the community at large find it frustrating to witness their loved ones endure assaults or lose their lives while the perpetrators continue to live freely and enjoy life. We need the perpetrators to be arrested, prosecuted, and punished for the crimes they committed."
Usakos Public Prosecutor Steven Muhembo received the petition and promised that "the Office of the Prosecutor General will take the community's concerns into consideration. It will be forwarded to relevant offices."
