A sustainable source of funding is crucial to the robust implementation of the activities of the SADC's Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation to ensure regional stability.

This and other matters dominated the SADC Organ Troika summit in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Phillip Mpango, the Vice President of Tanzania, said that despite progress made, the region still grapples with security challenges that “dent our efforts for a peaceful and stable region “.

Mpango represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as Tanzania is the current chair of SADC’s most powerful body.

“Incidents of illegal migration, terrorism, corruption, internal conflicts and the flow of illicit small arms and light weapons still affect some parts of the region,” he said.

Mpango called for undivided attention in the adoption of mitigating measures.

The SADC Organ Troika summit was held to assess the implementation of decisions in the preceding year and to make recommendations to the Heads of State and Government summit, taking place on August 17th.
