Windhoek Central Hospital hosted the commemoration of World Heart Day, observed annually on the 29th of September.

The global initiative aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and the prevention of heart-related diseases.

The NBC News Team was taken on a tour by the hospital's cardiac unit to several wards, including the paediatric high care unit and the paediatric intensive care unit, showcasing the critical work done to save lives and improve heart health.

Registered Nurse Josephine Sinvula delivered a speech to the gathering in commemoration.

"The day is initially just to celebrate those who have survived heart surgeries and heart conditions. We also create awareness for the public at large so that they know where to go and what to do if they experience any heart conditions or any heart condition symptoms."

She encouraged the public to adopt healthier lifestyles, regular exercise and balanced diets, to avoid smoking, and to go for routine check-ups to ensure strong and healthy hearts.
