The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, has announced the appointment of a new Interim Board for the National Youth Council. The board took effect this month and will serve for six months or until a substantive board is appointed.
Dr. Kennedy Kariseb will serve as Chairperson, with Iyahoo Ndapandula Shiimi as Deputy Chairperson. Other members include Unombuiro Unoo Kauteza, Patience Masua, Malwa Christine Ndapewa Francisco, Jamie Theron, Ester Meameno Shitana, Donna Gamatham, and Almandro Jansen.
The Interim Board is tasked with providing strategic guidance and oversight of the Council’s governance. Members are expected to uphold accountability and transparency while collaborating with stakeholders to advance youth development in Namibia. They will follow a clear Terms of Reference and undergo an induction programme to understand the Council’s legal, policy, and governance framework.
Minister Steenkamp reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to empowering young people and ensuring the Council remains a vital platform for youth participation, leadership, and development. She extended congratulations to the new appointees and expressed confidence in their ability to fulfill this important national role.
