The Oshana Region has recorded a slight decline in criminal activities in 2025 compared to 2024.

Speaking recently at a public engagement, the Oshana Police Commander, Commissioner Naftal Sakaria, says he is happy with the rate at which the region is fighting crime.

In 2025, the police recorded 1,038 cases of assault, while gender-based violence (GBV) cases are 619 compared to 664 recorded in 2024.

21 cases of murder were recorded in 2024 against 16 so far reported this year.

Armed robbery cases reduced significantly in 2025, with 22 cases against 42 recorded last year.

Commissioner Sakaria added that the use of CCTV cameras in the hotspots has also begun bearing positive results, as cases are solved within a short period of time.

"We proudly launched the CCTV project, a powerful tool in modern policing that enhances crime prevention, evidence gathering and surveillance in public spaces, which is already bearing fruit due to their strategic positioning, and this is the way contemporary policing is: policing through technology. As a region, we will continue to challenge ourselves in setting a vision that is complex; in fact, we are already thinking about drones."

He discouraged those planning to commit crimes of any sort or be reckless on the roads during the festive season, saying that police officers are on the ground.

"As we step into the festive period, I have a humble request to members of the public on duty. Comply with their lawful instructions and exercise patience and responsibility on the roads," he stressed.
