The Municipality of Walvis Bay has reiterated that the use of fireworks within the town is prohibited unless prior authorisation has been obtained from the relevant authorities.

In a media statement, the municipality said permission to operate fireworks must be obtained from the Police as well as from the Municipality of Walvis Bay.

It added that the regulations are aimed at ensuring public safety, particularly during the festive season.

Residents have been urged to be extremely cautious when handling or setting off fireworks, and children must not be allowed to play with or shoot fireworks.

For organised events, the municipality advised that professional guidance be sought.

The municipality further called on residents and visitors to comply with the regulations in the interest of community safety.
