Information and Communication Technology Executive Director Linda Nakale has urged members of the public to remain vigilant about cybercrime as it continues to rise in Namibia.

Speaking at a one-day regional consultation workshop on the Cybercrime Bill held at Oshakati in the Oshana Region, Nakale said criminals involved in cybercrime mainly target senior citizens, young people, and business owners, with an intention to rob them of their hard-earned money.

She emphasised that the public must be mindful of cybercrime and cybersecurity threats, noting that cybercrime has serious psychological effects on individuals, businesses, families, and the country in general.

Nakale also stressed that cybercrime knows no borders, making it a global challenge.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology is, therefore, conducting regional consultations on the Cybercrime Bill to engage stakeholders, discuss the proposed legislation, and gather public input aimed at securing Namibia’s digital economy.

She urges people to be extra cautious and not answer calls from strangers to avoid being scammed.
