NamWater says unpaid water bills have reached N$2.8 billion as of 30 November 2025.
According to Lot Ndamanomhata, a spokesperson for NamWater, the increase in unpaid accounts affects the financial position of the bulk water supplier.
Figures released show that town councils account for the largest share of the outstanding debt.
The top ten town councils owe NamWater about N$927 million, which represents 32% of the total N$2.8 billion debt.
The top ten municipalities owe about N$253.7 million, representing 20.1% of the total debt, while the top ten village councils owe about N$169.8 million, which accounts for 15.7% of the outstanding amount.
The top ten regional councils owe about N$81.8 million, representing 2.9% of the total debt.
Ndamanomhata said the figures show the level of outstanding payments owed to the corporation by local and regional authorities.
He said NamWater continues to supply water while engaging with authorities regarding payment of the accounts.
NamWater said it would suspend water supply to Rehoboth, but the suspension was halted after the town's political leaders met with NamWater.
Rehoboth owes NamWater N$150 million.
