The Namibia Revenue Agency (NAMRA), in collaboration with First National Bank of Namibia, has handed over donations worth N$25.000 to Annelie Olivier Old Age Home and Baumgartsbrunn Primary School.
The donation forms part of the two institutions' commitment to recognise and support community initiatives.
The initiative forms part of NamRA's and FNB's commitment to promote corporate social responsibility through strategic partnerships that benefit both education and eldercare communities.
NamRa Commissioner Sam Shivute praised FNB Namibia for being one of the highest revenue contributors in the country.
"When the diamond sector's price went down and they were not able to be the anchor, we were very, very happy to know that our financial sector, most especially the bank, stepped up and they offset that and they were able to make sure that they contributed sufficient revenue to the state for the state to be able to deliver on its developmental agenda."
First National Bank Group's Chief Financial Officer Lizette Smit says it is an honour to be recognised as a top tax contributor. She noted that such recognition, however, reflects a full circle moment in contributing to the economy. As such, it was prudent that it give back to the community.
"These two beneficiaries hold a very special place in the fabric of our community. The Annelie Olivier Old-Age Home stands for care, dignity and gratitude for our elders who build the foundations we stand on today. Baumgartsbrunn Primary School affects growth, possibility and the limitless potential of the next generation."
Baumgartbrunn School Principal Zerilde Garises notes that today is not just about giving but about coming together as a community, which is united by compassion, generosity and a shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of the children.
"Today we are having 395 learners, 12 teachers, 15 hostel staff, and one cleaner from the school, and we are growing day by day. Our school is only having one grade per class, and the languages that are taught here are Khoekhoegowab and English. As time moves on, our school is improving."
Annelie Olivier Old Age Home board member Marius Visser, while thanking FNB and Namra, says the donation will be put to good use.
"We are looking at erecting a couple of self-care units where you have a couple that are still married, and they can still look after themselves, but they don't have a permanent home. We are looking to erect facilities like that, and then once that is done, we are looking at a frail care unit."
The various goods donated range from blankets to toilet paper and basic food items.
