Parliament is set to host the memorial service of the late member of parliament and former Otjozondjupa Regional Governor, James Uerikua, with proceedings expected to begin shortly at Parliament Gardens in Windhoek.

The service will bring together government officials, members of parliament, families, friends, and members of the public to pay their respects.

Uerikua, aged 43, died on 3 April in a car accident in the Otjozondjupa Region alongside his son, Venturo (14). His passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the country.

He served as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on International Relations, Defence and Security and was also a former regional governor, contributing to both parliamentary work and regional development.

The memorial service forms part of the official programme leading up to his burial, scheduled for Sunday at Gam Otjiserandu.

The remains are expected to depart Windhoek on Friday.
