Vice President Lucia Witbooi has called for stronger Namibian and Chinese investment partnerships focused on local value addition, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.

She said this during a courtesy visit by a Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference delegation led by the Vice-Chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee, Zhu Yongxin.

China and Namibia maintain long-standing diplomatic and economic ties with continuous, elevated, comprehensive strategic, and cooperative partnerships.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led by Vice-Chairperson Zhu Yongxin, Witbooi from the outset appreciated China's support for Namibia in infrastructure development, capacity building, education, health, and economic cooperation.

She further reiterated Namibia's commitment to deepening ties with China, describing the relationship as built on solidarity, mutual respect and shared development goals.

Witbooi said the two countries' relations continue to strengthen, and she outlined key areas for future cooperation, including trade and investment, agriculture and food security, green energy, industrialisation, infrastructure development, innovation, digital transformation, skills development, and youth empowerment.

Witbooi also called for stronger investment partnerships that promote local value addition, job creation, technology transfers, and sustainable economic growth.

"Namibia also appreciates the educational opportunities, scholarships, and technical training programmes provided by China to Namibian students and our professionals. As development nations and partners within the Global South, we attach importance to continued cooperation in multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation."

Yongxin said Namibia and China share deep-rooted relations that remain strong despite global conflicts and uncertainties.

"China is ready to work with Namibia to carry forward this traditional friendship, implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit and use the consensus of the two leaders to further enrich our comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. I'd like to thank you, Madam Vice President, for speaking highly of China-Namibia relations just now. I'd like to share with you some of my observations on bilateral relations. First, we need to continue to firmly support each other in upholding our respective core interests and strengthen political mutual trust."

The delegation also held a meeting with the National Council Members of Parliament.

The official visit aims to strengthen parliamentary relations and cooperation between the two nations.
