The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and the Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA) have reaffirmed their longstanding partnership, committing to deepen cooperation in content sharing, resource utilisation and newsroom collaboration.

NBC Director General Menesia Muinjo said that while media houses often perceive one another as competitors, both institutions ultimately share a responsibility to serve the public interest and strengthen the country's media ecosystem.

She emphasised the need for closer coordination between the two organisations.

"We can plan it together because we don't have enough budget. So for example, if we go there – I know Mr Denk the last time-- what will NBC do from their side? Are we going to call it an unpacking? Are we only going to cover it for news? Do we need a radio station there to do it also? Because what is important is the message that goes to the nation. It's not Nampa, it's not NBC."

The two institutions identified several key areas for collaboration, including enhanced content sharing, joint coverage initiatives, regional office coordination, mini-documentary production and benchmarking of editorial and operational practices.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of exploring innovative and cost-effective approaches to news production and distribution, with a focus on improving both the quality and reach of journalism across platforms.

Jata Kazondu, the acting CEO of NAMPA, reiterates, "There are areas of cooperation that we always wanted to foster first and to encourage between ourselves. Those have never managed to actually pick off. But there's an agency not coming from us necessarily but coming from our ministry and from our ministry, from the office of the president, that we need to deliver tangible outcomes."

Both NBC and NAMPA further noted that strengthened cooperation could help improve institutional capacity, support regional reporting, and ensure more consistent and accessible news coverage for audiences across Namibia.
