The NBC has started with the process that will lead to the maintenance of non-operational towers in some areas.

Nudo Leader Vetaruhe Kandorozu raised concerns regarding non-operational NBC towers in some areas, including Brukkaros Mountain in Kunene Region and Paresis Volcanic Complex in Otjozondjupa, denying the public access to information.

"These communities have been denied access to information because of maintenance challenges, the need for battery replacements, and the lack of helicopter support from NBC and the government. Consequently, technicians have been unable to service the affected towers. The relevant authorities are aware of the situation."

Information and Communication Technology minister Emma Theofelus said the ministry is aware of the matter, but due to the terrain in the areas where the satellites have been installed, it will require helicopters for technicians to reach these locations.

“Thankfully now the budget has been covered. That process has kicked in for us to get the assistance of either commercial helicopters and the equipment needed for their maintenance or, if that amount is unreasonable, we have looked in the way of the Namibian Police Force and their fleet of helicopters to assist. So the process is still ongoing. We have asked the communities to be patient with us.”
