After more than a century of craftsmanship and legacy, one of Namibia's most iconic names in custom-made jewellery, Adrian & Meyer, is closing its doors.

The owner, Rolf Adrian, announced that the business will shut down at the end of July after being in operation for more than a hundred years.

This afternoon, we take you inside the story of this remarkable journey, the challenges that led to its closure, and the heartfelt reflections of a man who dedicated his time to creating employment for many and producing unique craftsmanship for years.

Adrian & Meyer owner Rolf Meyer said ending the century-old legacy, which made the business a household name in the manufacturing of custom-made jewellery, was a hard but necessary step.

"My sincere dream was, and wish is, that we find a successor because I think this is still a very good company, and it still can provide food for the families who work for the company. But we looked over the last three years to find a successor; we advertised it, especially locally, but capital is a problem."

The business owner also fondly recalls the financial and business highlights during his tenure.

"I think we have been very successful in being part of the value chain to make the jewellery. So we use Namibian gemstones, and we trained our people. And then most of the jewellery, which is bought by Adrian and Mayer, is actually made here. So still up to today, up to today, each year we make about 400 pieces of jewellery, of which 200 are specifically made for customers."

With a dedicated team of employees that have formed part of the Adrian & Meyer family for years, Andrian expressed sadness about them losing their jobs.

"This is a very unfortunate part of closing a business because you need to terminate the employment of your employees. And they've been very loyal to us. Most of our employers were with me for more than 10 years, and we had a really, really great team, and they're very skilful."
