China's ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, on Tuesday gave an overview of the president's recent visit to China.
During the visit, Weiping says the two countries had signed eight bilateral agreements in areas such as trade, industrialisation, and the export of agricultural and aquatic products, as well as exploring cooperation in the production of pharmaceuticals in Namibia.
Ambassador Weiping says President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's visit to China marks a significant milestone in the development of China-Namibia relations.
He stated that the Chinese government has pledged more government assistance grants to Namibia for the implementation of development projects.
China's Ministry of Commerce has also provided scholarships for Masters and Doctoral studies in China to 87 Namibian students this year.
"During the visit, both sides also signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture of the Republic of Namibia and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China on bilateral cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education and training, which will help promote exchanges and cooperation between the Tibetan institutions of the two countries."
He added that agriculture will continue to be a key area for bilateral cooperation among the two countries.
"Both sides signed a protocol of vital sanitary requirements for exports of fresh table goods from Namibia to China between the General Administration of Customs of China and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform of the Republic of Namibia. The Chinese side also announced the unified regional market access arrangement for the import of wild aquatic products from Africa on the occasion of President Nandi-Ndaitwah's visit."
The ambassador further stated that China continues to encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest and operate in Namibia and strengthen cooperation in the process of Namibia's industrialisation.
The two countries also agreed to actively pursue mutual beneficial cooperation, fully leveraging their complementary strengths and deepening the convergence of interests.
