The Head of Police's traffic law enforcement in Otjozondjupa, Petrus Swartz, has cautioned motorists to adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.
Commissioner Swartz's caution follows an accident south of Otjiwarongo on the B1 road involving two vehicles.
The two drivers—one in a bakkie and another in a sedan—collided when an unidentified sedan vehicle driver attempted to overtake on a solid line.
The sedan driver suffered serious injuries and had to be cut out of the wreckage with the jaws of life.
“My appeal to road users remains the same. The intolerance we are seeing on our roads should really come to an end. Let us adhere to traffic rules and regulations. Number one is speed. Speed limits are not there merely for the sake of having a limit; they are provided for a specific reason, which is to ensure road safety. Let us adhere to the speed limits. We know the roads are busy. It is the school holidays, the Ongwediva Trade Fair is about to start, and people are travelling on these roads. Today, I came from Omuthiya, and the road was very busy. I therefore urge road users to be patient and tolerant and to plan their trips accordingly. The Namibian Police will continue with law enforcement.”
