The Namibia Volleyball Federation is strengthening the administrative capacity of the sport through its first FIVB-supported training programme, bringing together more than 30 administrators, coaches, team managers, and emerging sports leaders in Windhoek.

The five-day programme, running from 21 to 25 September at the Tabitha Conference Centre, is aimed at improving governance, leadership, and the overall management of the game under the theme "Enhancing Leadership, Strong Governance."

The Namibia Volleyball Federation identified administration and governance as critical areas for the sport's continued development, particularly because volleyball in the country relies heavily on administrators and officials working on a voluntary basis.

To address this, the federation introduced the administrative programme with support from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). Participants from various structures within the sport are receiving exposure to sports governance, leadership, event planning, financial management, marketing, communication, safe sport, and ethics.

Namibia Volleyball Federation Chief Executive Officer Festus Hamukwaya emphasised that proper governance is essential, especially given that volleyball is largely run by volunteers. He noted that after applying for and receiving approval for the FIVB development project following a previous coaching initiative the focus has now shifted to building administrative capacity and improving governance across the sport.

For participants, the training offers a deeper understanding of sports administration away from the court.

Participant Anita Bock from the Happy Children Charity Organisation highlighted that the course is helping her understand the key rules, responsibilities, and standards required when working within a sporting environment.

Similarly, Merwen Khubeb of UNAM Volleyball noted that the programme will enhance his skills and improve how he manages team responsibilities and works with players.

The programme concludes on 25 September, with the federation aiming to use improved leadership and governance to build a more organized and sustainable structure for volleyball in Namibia.
