Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Dr Sanet Steenkamp says the 1904–1908 War of Resistance remains one of the most defining chapters in Namibia's history.

The Shark Island site, which serves as a reminder of the 1904-1908 genocide horrors, must be guarded against any form of erasure, neglect or disintegration.

She made these remarks during the commemoration of Genocide Remembrance Day at Eenhana, located in the Ohangwena Region.

The Ovaherero and Nama genocide remains one of the darkest chapters in Namibia's history, an era marked by deep suffering, loss and displacement. For many Ovaherero and Nama families, the painful memories of that time still live on through stories passed down from generation to generation.
