The Governor of the ||Kharas Region, Dawid Gertze, has hailed pharmacists as unsung heroes for their role in ensuring essential medicines are available in the health care system. 

The pharmaceutical sector has come under parliamentary scrutiny, with growing concerns over the safety of medicines in Namibia and the regulation of local manufacturers. 

The Minister of Health and Social Services has dismissed what she called misleading narratives about her turning a blind eye to the alleged illegal import of medicines into Namibia.

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, says the implementation of the Public Procurement Act has significantly impacted the availability of medicines and clinical supplies.
