Local labour scholar Dr Michael Akuupa says Namibian higher education institutions are struggling to keep pace with rapidly evolving global academic curricula and the demands of emerging labour markets.

Well over 12 million young people enter the job market each year, while only about three million jobs are created annually.

Namibia is moving towards institutionalising the Employment Impact Assessment framework, a tool designed to measure the effectiveness of employment policies, investments, and reforms before and after implementation.

Unemployment in the |Khomas Region currently stands at 44%, and this has resulted in the regional council intensifying efforts to create jobs and improve livelihoods through targeted investments in entrepreneurship, rural development, and housing initiatives.

The Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation, Utoni Nujoma, has outlined the vital issues within the Namibian labour market that need to be addressed, such as youth unemployment.
