Tragedy has struck the Ohangwena Region after two separate fire incidents claimed the lives of two women.

In the most recent incident at Onhuno, a thirty-two-year-old woman died after allegedly locking herself inside a burning corrugated-iron room on Monday morning.

A Grade two learner, nine-year-old Motjaritje Tjambiru died in a fire that engulfed her family's shack in Kanaan A, Gobabis. The incident has left the family in shock and mourning.

The Dina Namubes Community Upliftment and Youth Empowerment Programme Foundation handed over two fire extinguishers to two community soup kitchens in the DRC informal settlement at Swakopmund.

The Namibian Police Force is advising the public to exercise extreme caution when making fires at home or handling flammable products. 

This warning comes in response to a rise in fire incidents reported in recent months. 

A 62-year-old resident of Windhoek's Goreangab area, Maripurua Kotjipari, has been left homeless after his shack burnt down.

Kotjipari was reading by candlelight at nine o'clock in the evening when he fell asleep.
