Namibians are once again heading to the polls this November, this time to elect regional and local authority councillors.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is working around the clock to ensure that the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Election on 26 November runs smoothly.

Regional and local authority elections voter turnout declines drastically

Voter turnout for the regional council and local authority elections has seen a drastic decline from 81% in 1992 to 38% in 2020.

IIkwambi said that, despite a recent modest upward trend in local authority elections, they remain lower than national elections, and this, he said, is not impressive.

Inspection of National Assembly election materials continues at ECN

The inspection of voting material used during the National Assembly election held last month continues at the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s headquarters.

ECN Commissioner Pius Iikwambi says the process is proceeding smoothly so far and expressed confidence they will be done by 17:00 today.
