The Bank of Namibia is taking deliberate steps to modernise and digitalise payment methods through the National Payment System.

This is in an effort to improve accessibility and make transactions more convenient for all Namibians.

The Bank of Namibia's Instant Payment Programme, an initiative to modernise the country's financial system, is now expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026. 

The Ministry of Finance has started the process of phasing out social grant cash payments. 

The Deputy Director of Social Assistance, Albert Biwa, made the announcement at the consultative meeting with social grant recipients at Keetmanshoop.
