The Eenhana Town Council will relocate street vendors to a new site from the 30th of this month to bring order to the town.

Street vendors, however, are unhappy.

Street vendors operating from China Town in the Northen Industrial Area, led by social justice activists Michael Amushelelo and Shaun Gariseb, made their way to the City of Windhoek headquarters to get clarity on the legal basis of why they were removed from their trading places without any written directive.

Street vendors form a significant part of Namibia's informal sector and contribute meaningfully to the economy. However, some traders face restrictions due to regulations governing where and how vending activities can take place.

Vendors in Windhoek are slowly beginning to feel the pinch from the absence of customers, as many have returned to their places of origin, while others head to holiday destinations to unwind.​

The Okahandja Municipality and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy, Industry, Public Administration and Planning met with Okahandja street vendors to hear their daily challenges.

Dr. Hoze Riruako, leader of one of the two Herero factions, has called on traditional councillors in the Otjinene area to step in and diffuse the situation that might result in bloodshed. 

His call followed unrest in the area after a resident was killed over the weekend.
