Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi has issued a stern warning to traffic officers allegedly harassing seven-seater vehicle operators, stating that such conduct will not be tolerated.

Speaking at a press conference at his office, Nekundi emphasized the need for professionalism among traffic officers and urged them to stop unfairly targeting seven-seater drivers. He also called on operators to comply with road regulations and adhere to the conditions of their permits.

“All drivers whose permits were revoked will have them reinstated, and those previously instructed to reduce their loading capacity may now resume loading to full capacity,” the minister announced.

Nekundi further cautioned that any officer who disregards his directive will face disciplinary action. He echoed the call by Police Chief Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, encouraging traffic officials to educate drivers rather than impose excessive fines.

He described the practice of issuing heavy fines as “disheartening” and made it clear that he will not tolerate any abuse of power by those tasked with enforcing the law.

At the same time, Nekundi urged seven-seater operators to respect traffic laws and permit conditions to promote road safety and maintain order.
