Operative Secretary of the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), Dawid Eigub, says President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's recent State of the Nation Address did not offer real solutions for the problems many Namibians are facing.

Eigub said the speech lacked bold ideas and failed to address the deep struggles of ordinary people.

“Namibia has great potential, but that potential is not reaching most of our people,” Eigub said, adding, “How can we talk about prosperity when over a million people live in shacks, 41% of our people don’t have enough to eat, and almost half of our young people can’t find jobs?”

Eigub said the LPM demands an expansion of the development budget to at least N$25 billion, with clear targets for mass job creation, inclusive infrastructure, and social justice. “This budget must directly address mass housing, rural development, and youth employment,” he said.

Among the LPM’s priorities are inclusive student support, housing, meals, transport, and academic materials, which he says must be provided to ensure true access to education.

The statement was in response to President Nandi-Ndaitwah's announcement that tertiary education will be free from 2026.
