The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Omuthiya Town Council.
During the visit, Omuthiya Mayor Beata Nashongo took the opportunity to raise several urgent concerns affecting the town.
"Honourable Sankwasa, I need your intervention in Omuthiya town for the matters; the challenges need to be addressed as a matter of concern at the Omuthiya council.
I look forward to a fruitful working relationship with you."
Sankwasa said he wanted to understand how land is administered in Omuthiya and why the council has a council member who does not live in the town on their payroll.
"I want to come and appreciate the way land is managed in Omuthiya; I equally want to appreciate how the financial management of Omuthiya is being conducted. Then comes the issue of disunity amongst the elected leaders, first disunity because of political affiliation amongst the councillors. Secondly, disunity amongst the Swapo member councils themselves. Which eventually translates to the issue of not rendering effective services to the residents and citizens of this town."
