President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has described the late former Minister of Works and Transport, Moses Amweelo, as a freedom fighter who has contributed immensely to the struggle for the independence of Namibia.
Amweelo, a former Member of Parliament, died on Wednesday, aged 73.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah lauded the late Amweelo’s contributions in the planning and execution of important infrastructure projects as consequential in positively impacting the development of Namibia.
She says the country mourns a true son of the soil, whose commitment to independence and socio-economic well-being shall not be forgotten.
The former politician served as a cabinet minister until 2005 and as a member of parliament until 2010.
“After leaving public office, Dr. Amweelo pursued the noble profession of teaching at institutions of higher learning in our country, imparting knowledge and shaping a new generation of students, engineers and infrastructure planners,” recalled Nandi-Ndaitwah in a statement.
The President extended condolences to the entire bereaved family of late Dr. Amweelo.
