Dr. Hoze Riruako, leader of one of the two Herero factions, has called on traditional councillors in the Otjinene area to step in and diffuse the situation that might result in bloodshed. 

His call followed unrest in the area after a resident was killed over the weekend.

Following the killing, makeshift structures belonging to vendors, believed to be operating illegally on the streets of Otjinene, were burnt down by some members of the community.

The vendors are accused of criminal acts, mainly livestock theft.
