Some Katutura residents in Windhoek, under the Katutura Residents Committee, petitioned the City of Windhoek, calling on the municipality to write off debts of pensioners under the 43 build-together groups, as well as the contract renewal of debt collector RedForce.
The Katutura Residents Committee Chairperson, Benestus Kandundu, expressed disappointment that the person they expected to receive the petition did not show up.
"It shows that they are not interested in the people. So they are not interested in the people because this matter has been coming up for quite a long time. It had been raised for quite a long time. Even from their side by now, they would have thought of what they could do about this matter."
The petition was, however, received by the city's Strategic Executive for Electricity, who only said it would be forwarded to the relevant departments.
