Omaheke residents welcomed with celebration Uatjiri Mbaisa and Melanie van der Merwe, who were recently crowned Miss Namibia 1st runner-up and Miss Teen 2nd runner-up, respectively.

Residents held a street march from the famous cattle country bull statue through the town of Gobabis.

Mayor Melba Tjozongoro pointed out that both Mbaisa's and Van der Merwe's achievements represent the valiant greatness of the region.

Tjozongoro urged all stakeholders to support them.

"We are so proud of our region and towns because you were proud when you shouted your origins. I was one of those who did not sleep those nights, as I was watching from my bed as you bravely represented us, shouting your region."

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate stressed his office's support for the duo.

"Thank you for placing Gobabis on the map. If we forget our past and remember that we are Namibians and people of this region, we can pull it out of poverty and ignorance and make it a region of excellence."

Mbaisa and van der Merwe shared their experiences.

"This journey has told me that there are people who have stood behind me. I'm really standing here because of everyone. I'm truly grateful," said Mbaisa.

Van der Merwe said that "I feel like my pride for my country and the region has grown so much throughout this journey, and I appreciate that so much."

Gobabis resident Veronia Mokaleng hailed the beauty queens as inspirational individuals.
