Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, has reiterated Namibia’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation with Cuba. The remarks were made during a bilateral meeting with her Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo Hernández, on the margins of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The two leaders discussed the importance of enhancing inter-parliamentary relations based on the existing cooperation agreement between their legislative bodies. They committed to facilitating greater exchanges between parliamentary committees and friendship groups focused on areas of shared interest.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila used the occasion to express Namibia’s opposition to the longstanding economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed on Cuba by the United States. She also condemned Cuba’s re-inclusion on the list of countries designated as state sponsors of terrorism. In her remarks, she acknowledged Cuba’s historical support for Namibia’s liberation struggle and underscored the enduring ties between the two countries.
Lazo Hernández welcomed Namibia’s solidarity and affirmed Cuba’s readiness to broaden cooperation through regular dialogue, technical exchange, and mutual support at multilateral forums.
