Hardap Governor Riaan McNab has called on community leaders and citizens to ensure that elderly and vulnerable members of society are not left behind, urging for continued support beyond ceremonial events.

McNab, together with other sponsors, handed over 200 food parcels to senior citizens at Rehoboth.

Speaking at an event themed "Celebrating the Pillars of Our Community," McNab said the role played by the elderly citizens is important.

He said senior citizens must not be seen as a burden but as the foundation of the community.

"Our elderly are not a burden. They are the roots of our community. Their wisdom, hard work, and sacrifices laid the groundwork on which we stand today."

He highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in how society treats its most vulnerable members, stating that such conduct reflects the true character of a community.

"You are the living history of this region; you are the silent heroes, the bearers of wisdom, the givers of heritage, and the seeds of values we benefit from today."

The governor called on community leaders to make caring for the elderly and vulnerable a permanent priority.

McNab reaffirmed the community's belief in shared humanity, equal worth, and the commitment to not leave anyone to face hardship alone.
