The family of Windhoek resident John Kasupi demand answers over his death, accusing medical staff of negligence and procedural lapses.

Kasupi, who had no history of substance use, began acting erratically on May 13 after work. Despite family concerns, the hospital staff initially ignored him until he showed abnormal behaviour and was admitted.

On May 15, Kasupi left his hospital room unnoticed and was returned, appearing disoriented. The family requested extra care, and although Kasupi seemed stable the next day, they were later informed he had tried to take his own life in the hospital toilet.

Kasupi remained hospitalised until his death on July 30 due to unspecified bacterial pneumonia. The family alleges poor communication and a lack of updates on his condition.

The Ministry of Health confirmed an investigation will be launched, and the family has been advised to file a formal complaint. Kasupi’s burial is scheduled for this weekend.
