Omaheke Police Commander Heinrich Tjiveze reminded cadet trainees that policing is not just about enforcing laws, but it is about building relationships and fostering trust within communities.
Commissioner Tjiveze was at the start of training of 651 cadet constables at the Pius Joseph Kaundu Police Training Centre.
The commissioner said the basic training is not just a course, it is a comprehensive programme designed to equip the new recruits with the skills, knowledge and values necessary to serve and protect the society.
"Henceforth this will enable you to effectively and efficiently execute the police mandate as stipulated in section 13 of the Police Act as amended, which includes preservation of internal security of Namibia, maintenance of law and order, investigation of any offence, prevention of crime, and protection of life and property. Moreover, the training also covers contemporary policing issues such as transnational organised crimes and scale issues like stress management, emotional intelligence, and financial literacy."
Deputy Commissioner Lavinia Zimmer highlighted that the training intervention will not only benefit the cadets.
"To the cadets on parade, the policing career is one that is very fulfilling and holds room for executive growth. I state this as the police force is one of the few institutions where you can practise any trade, and this is shown in the diverse recruitment strategies applied in your recruitment. Dear cadets, having stated the latter, take note that being a police officer is no walk in the park and as such requires the utmost discipline, focus, determination and perseverance."
