The New Era Newspapers Chief Executive Officer Christof Maletsky called on Public Relations Officers (PROs) to build relations with journalists and media practitioners to build stronger bonds.

He made this call during a media engagement workshop.

Maletsky said that there is a need for PROs to build effective relationships with media practitioners and also to provide the information required on time and to understand certain things within the organisations.

He said that some companies and PROs are killing the media by withholding information as well as sending information and media releases late.

Maletsky also touched on the issue of PROs refusing to comment on specific topics, mentioning that 'no comment' is also a comment.

On his part, the Media Ombudsman, Dr. Sadrag Shihomeka, highlighted the importance of ethics in any setting.

He urged the media and individuals to verify information before disseminating it.

Dr. Shihomeka further encouraged the public and journalists to refrain from sharing distorted information.
