The leader of the National Democratic Party, Lukato Lukato, asked the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, to explain the criteria used in the promotion of uniformed personnel, citing issues of inequity.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Lukato said, "There is a crying of members of the police, members of immigration, and members of Home Affairs. Your ministry is a huge ministry. Regarding the promotions of those higher-ranking officers, since you yourself have been appointed by the sitting president, with your power vested in you, which ranks at a higher level than yourself, are you entitled to promote those members?"

Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security Minister Lucia Iipumbu responded that "Lukato, a former member of the police force, is well-versed in the promotion procedures conducted by the Inspector General of Police. These procedures depend on established criteria related to performance, conduct, and discipline. These criteria are essential for evaluating an individual police officer's performance to determine their eligibility for promotion."

She added that it goes along with so many other criteria set by the various committees that carry out the assessment.

Iipumbu further stated that in the current financial year and the previous financial year, approximately 600 police officers have been promoted.
