Santam Namibia has partnered with former Miss Namibia Prisca Anyolo and Urban Harvest in launching a climate-smart food project to help fight poverty at Dordabis Settlement.
The Dordabis Project under Miss Namibia 2024 Prisca Anyolo's Crowning Garden initiative seeks to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by enabling community members to take ownership of their food security through climate-smart agriculture initiatives.
Urban Harvest will provide training and skills transfer on the system operations, crop cycles, fish care, record keeping and entrepreneurship through selected garden champions to ensure continuity within the community.
The Dordabis Project will be equipped with a hydroponic system, built with a six-metre A-frame, and can produce about 40 heads of leafy greens per week on a sustainable basis, as well as herbs.
Crowning Gardens and Urban Harvest did a similar project in Windhoek's Havana informal settlement last year, and they plan to extend the initiative to other regions.
