Namibia’s music industry has lost yet another one of its most influential figures with the passing of guitarist and producer Christian Polloni at the age of 67.
Born in Marseille, France, in 1958, Polloni made Namibia his home for more than two decades, producing hits for artists such as Ngatu, Elemotho, and Qondja. He was known for his award-winning work, including Erna Chimu’s Hei Serute, which earned him Best Producer at the 2014 Namibia Annual Music Awards.
Close friend Erna Chimu told NBC News their last conversation was emotional, adding, “Being an artist in Namibia is hard with no access to medical aid support. Artists are dying.”
Polloni leaves behind a legacy of shaping and uplifting Namibia’s music scene.
