The Swapo Party's Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa, has urged party members to unite and work tirelessly to reclaim Walvis Bay in the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.
Shaningwa described Walvis Bay as a strategic town that is economically important to Namibia's logistics, trade, and industrial development during the official launch of the party's 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities election campaign.
She stated that regaining control of Walvis Bay is essential for ensuring effective service delivery, empowering local communities, and the successful implementation of national development plans.
Shaningwa emphasised that disciplined, development-focused leaders who prioritise the people must lead local authorities like Walvis Bay for Namibia's economy to grow inclusively.
She called on Swapo members to mobilise, rebuild trust among voters and show that the party can deliver on its campaign promises of housing, sanitation, employment, and infrastructure improvement.
"We are here to listen to your command, directive and instructions as to how you want us to go and engage with the Namibian people so that at least the Swapo party becomes victorious on the 26th of November 2025. That is very, very important. We are talking about class minus only seven weeks for us to do what we have to do to deliver the Swapo party and to make sure that we are successful."
Also speaking at the event was the Erongo Regional Coordinator for the party, Daniel Muhuura, who said that it is time to restore Walvis Bay to its former glory days.
"Walvis Bay used to be a town of pride, but has become the town of shame with a lot of challenges. Look at our road infrastructure today. Look at our solar system. They are in very poor condition. Services are not delivered the way they should be; the people of this town are suffering because of poor management under the current leadership, a situation which is not acceptable to our residents. Our people deserve better. That's why we are here today to say the time for change is now; it is time to restore Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region."
Party President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah launched the election campaign under the theme "Unity in Diversity: Natural Resource Beneficiation and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development".
