Residents of the Katima Mulilo Extension 27 and those of Choto Extensions Seven and Eight in the Zambezi Region who have been living without electricity will soon have their houses electrified.
This was revealed by the Deputy Director for Energy Planning in the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, Abraham Angula, during an engagement with the community of the concerned areas.
Angula noted that the design work in the areas earmarked for electrification is starting immediately.
"We are now electrifying Chotto Extension Seven, Extension Eight and Lwayaha. So the work will start immediately. I want to caution that please have patience; we brought this big team here because we want to do it correctly. There is a process in how we do it; you have to do designs so that it is done safely. We all understand that electricity can be dangerous, and with the professionals, we do it correctly and safely."
He promised that by the end of February 2026, the design work would be completed before actual electrification starts.
Electrification for Katima Mulilo extension 27, informally called Lwa Yaha, is funded by the government, while Chotto extensions seven and eight will be funded in partnership with the KFW development bank of Germany.
Zambezi Governor Dorothy Kabula said electrifying different areas shows the government's commitment to building a better future for all.
"Access to electricity is one of the most powerful tools for transformation. It is not just about lights; it is about empowering communities. With electricity, our children can study safely in the evenings, our schools can function effectively, our clinics can deliver better health services, and our local businesses can grow and thrive."
