The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says the regional council election in Ogongo Constituency in Omusati Region will continue as planned on 26 November.
This announcement comes after reports that one of the contesting candidates resigned.
In a statement, the ECN explained that it has not received any formal notice from the affected political party, the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), that their candidate, Ndalikutya Shonena, is no longer contesting due to his resignation from the party.
The Commission says that, according to the Electoral Act, an election can only be called off if a candidate dies or becomes too sick to continue after being nominated.
Since this is not the case in Ogongo, the election will go ahead as planned.
The ECN added that all preparations, including the printing of ballot papers, have already been completed.
The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all elections are held in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
