The Landless People Movement (LPM) and Swapo Party finished in a tie in the Keetmanshoop Local Authority elections, which leaves IPC as the kingmaker with one deciding vote.
The announcement was made by ECN's Returning Officer Joy-Anne Hartung, who said, "I hereby, therefore, declare the following persons as members of the local authority of Keetmanshoop: Francis Swartbooi from the Landless People Movement; Annelize Knaus from the Landless People Movement; Isaak from the Landless People Movement; Beatha N. Set from the Swapo Party of Namibia; Emrico C Blaauw from the Swapo Party of Namibia; Othilie Owoses from the Swapo Party of Namibia; and Peter Sheye from the Independent Patriotic for Change."
Swapo Party Coordinator for ||Kharas, Matheus Mumbala, welcomed the results.
"I am very happy. Even though we didn't win the majority, we have three local authority votes compared to 2020, when we had just two. This time we have three; we understand the local authorities, and we win the whole region, which means we control the ||Kharas region. That's how we feel, and we are ready to work."
Meanwhile, Swapo Party's Dawid Ulrich won the Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency.
